In addition to specializing in a variety of outpatient drug rehab center programs in CA, Westwind Recovery® also offers one of the most reliable LGBTQ addiction treatment center programs available. All of our treatment programs and sober living houses are open to LGBTQ clients, but we offer specific weekly sessions and 12-step meetings to provide specialized care and support from those who have experience in helping members of the community. We also provide access to a local LGBTQ resource center to assist with treatment links.
With the burgeoning threat of Chemsex drugs like Crystal Methamphetamine, crystal methamphetamine (aka crystal, meth, Tina), GHB (aka G), and mephedrone, Westwind Recovery® takes its place on the frontlines of the war to reclaim our loved ones from the brink of despair and offer them solutions that not only improve the quality of their lives but also foster enduring bridges toward real intimacy.
Westwind Recovery® also offers LGBTQ-integrative programming for dual-diagnosis mental health and trauma issues, addressing specialized matters by creating an environment that supports healing in a predominantly heterosexual milieu. In this way, LGBTQ clients are given a new experience of acceptance and validation, one that is imperative to successful long-term recovery. Whether you are in need of outpatient treatment or are looking for a sober living house, Westwind Recovery® has the options you need.
LGBTQ Substance Abuse Treatment
When compared with heterosexual and cisgender individuals, LGBTQ individuals have been found to suffer significantly higher incidences of stressful childhood experiences, school victimization, neighborhood-level hate crimes, and family conflict. Each of these stressors has been found to correlate significantly with increased substance abuse.
Treatment-seeking LGBTQ individuals at an LGBTQ addiction treatment center also display significantly higher rates of mental illness than non-LGBTQ individuals. Transgender men and women are more than twice as likely to have a diagnosis of mental illness as cisgender men or women.
A 2014 study of LGBTQ individuals seeking treatment at Westwind Recovery® found that 92% of LGBTQ clients were diagnosed with a co-occurring Axis disorder, as compared to 78% of non-LGBTQ clients. Further analysis showed that LGBTQ clients were significantly more likely to be diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorders. These results are consistent with other studies that have determined that LGBTQ individuals are 2-3 times more likely than heterosexual individuals to report suicidal ideation or attempts.
Treatment Factors for LGBTQ Clients
Comparisons of treatment-seeking rates between LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ individuals have determined that LGBTQ individuals seek treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders at a significantly higher rate than heterosexual individuals. Despite this, there are surprisingly few programs geared explicitly toward treating LGBTQ clients. This is why Westwind Recovery® offers LGBTQ addiction treatment center programs in Los Angeles.
Westwind Recovery®’s LGBTQ Addiction Treatment Center
All of our treatment programs and sober living houses are available for members of the LGBTQ community. And at Westwind Recovery®, we are forward-thinking and continuously evolving as we challenge ourselves to stay on the cutting edge of substance abuse and mental health treatment within the LGBTQ community.
We look at what’s relevant to our population, what needs and pain points are present, and how we can marry our services and unique core competencies to meet those needs at our LGBTQ addiction treatment center.
LGBTQ individuals have spent most of their lives trying to fit in and conform to sexual and gender ideas and constructs that do not match how they see themselves in the world. For most, this has created alienation, isolation as well as discrimination.
Methamphetamine, cocaine, party drugs (GHB, ecstasy, ketamine), alcohol, and prescription medications are heavily abused in the LGBTQ community. High-risk behaviors associated with many of these drugs can cause even greater shame, increase health risks, and perpetuate use.
Westwind Recovery® specializes in LGBTQ substance abuse treatment within a variety of outpatient programs. Services include weekly LGBTQ-specific sessions, 12-step meetings, and access to a local LGBTQ resource center to assist with treatment links.
Our LGBTQ addiction treatment center program addresses coping with coming out, confusion around sexual orientation and gender identity, internalized homophobia, societal stigma and discrimination, HIV/AIDS, death and dying, same-sex relationship dynamics, homophobia, heterosexism, the fusion of drugs and sex, and healthy sexuality.
Westwind Recovery® also offers LGBTQ-integrative programming for dual diagnosis of mental health and trauma issues, which addresses specialized matters by creating an environment that supports healing in a predominantly heterosexual milieu. In this way, LGBTQ clients are given a new experience of acceptance and validation, one that seems imperative to a successful recovery.
